{pretty as a flower}

These fun creations by Elsa Mora are so whimsical and beautiful. They remind me of the fairies in the Spiderwick Chronicles. I think this would be a lovely idea for children.

She has a lovely book filled with these entitled Blossom Buddies. As if these were not fabulous enough, Elsa does papercut art, has a lovely style blog, and an etsy shop. Oh, did I mention she’s Cuban? It’s a done deal right there.

{everyday beautiful life}

I started this blog with the intention of sharing things that make life beautiful, because I believe that appreciating the common and uncommon beauty in our lives greatly improves our lives. I feel that, as of late, there is more beautiful fashion and editorial being posted here. I think there needs to be more balance and more of a focus on the ordinary and the unusual beauty, not defined by the fashion world. For beauty to really make an impact in our lives, we need to define what is beautiful for ourselves and see things in a new light. So, in the next few weeks, you’ll see increasing posts on everyday beauty and living beautifully, which I hope will become a regular series on this blog. If you are interested in guest posting or have suggestions, please feel free to e-mail bitsofbeauty@gmail.com or send me a tweet!

{p.s.} There will still be plenty of pretty pictures, fashion and editorial here.

{civic beauty}

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if every city made the usual eyesores beautiful? Philadelphia unveiled these lovely recycling trucks this year on Earth Day.

And, apparently Japan has the loveliest manholes in the world. These are just a few, but from what I have seen there are hundreds of unique covers. Talk about a random bit of beauty!

More on Japanese manhole covers here.

{the garden of eden had pirates}

I saw these on Refinery29 and thought they were gorgeous. However, I don’t quite get a Garden of Eden feeling from them, despite the title. There is something very tropical, almost pirate-like.

{things i loved about the weekend}

* My big loud Cuban family
* Café cubano con Piña Colada
* Playing dominoes {and winning}
* 5 dogs in the house, and Lola shared her toys with all her guests
* Coke in a glass bottle {Why is it that Coke tastes better that way?}
* Mac-n-cheese on a cloudy, quiet Sunday
* An enormous, full-arch rainbow
* Experiencing the feeling of a double-reed again. I haven’t played in 10 years.

{down the rabbit hole}

It’s Monday. Down the rabbit hole we go! Might as well go down stylishly.

{sponsors}

You may have noticed some ads on the sidebar and bottom of the page. I’ve chosen to control the ads on my page, because I don’t believe in promoting products or services that I don’t believe in. So, if you see it on {Bits of Beauty}, it’s because I have or would buy it. Also, if you’re going to purchase from one of the stores (like Shopbop), please be a doll and enter the store through my page/ad. Thanks beauties!

*I’ve lost about 100 readers a day who use Internet Explorer, so I won’t be taking sponsors yet. However, once Blogger fixes the problem or I move to another host, I will begin taking flat fee sponsors.

{Sigh}

I wish I was in New York right now, so I could go to this annual Jazz Age Lawn Party on Governor’s Island. I’ve seen the pictures from this event on The Sartorialist and A Cup of Jo. Looking at them again, I think it would make a wonderful wedding idea. Don’t you agree?
