{hello there}

be awesome {hello there}

It’s been awhile, since I posted. {Hey, I warned you I’d be posting sporadically.} I thought I’d share some goodies from the web with you on this Monday. Feel free to share with me on the {bits of beauty} facebook page. Also, if you’re one of the few who have joined Google+ you can find me there, too. Enjoy!

As much as I admire artworks by the greats, I’ve always felt that art in the home should be original, or at least unique and personal. Unless I had a special love for a particular famous piece of art work, I’d try to avoid hanging a poster of it in my home. Instead, I prefer something original, or closer to the original like a signed print from the artist; it feels like there is a stronger connection this way.

With that in mind, today I’m featuring these adorable drawings from studio legohead. How sweet are these? For around $120 you can get a personalized portrait of your pup to hang on your wall for all to admire. Now, isn’t that better than that cheap wine bottle print you got from a sidewalk stand?

{google art}

There’s nothing like seeing art in person, especially when carefully presented by well trained curators. However, Google has done a bang up job of bring art to the web with their new Google Art Project. As of today, you can virtually view works in 17 galleries including the MoMA, the Frick, the Tate, and Versailles. You can get closer than you’d ever be able to IRL, and in some cases in more detail than the naked eye would ever allow (as in see the crackling on the painting close.) Take some time today and explore the site or curate your own collection.

Did I mention that you can also take a google street view style tour through the Palace of Versailles?

The world we live in is truly awesome, isn’t it?

 {diy glittering doily garland}

Crafting up some tissue paper snowflakes recently with the little one and decided to play with making a garland out of doilys. I dusted them up with glitter and ended up liking the homespun quality of them quite a bit. Instructions below.

Glittering Doily Letter Garland

2 packs of paper doilys
x-acto knife
pearlescent paint
elmers glue
sponge brush
fine crystal glitter {martha stewart makes lovely glitters}
felt tip or calligraphy pen
string, ribbon, or fish line

+ Using calligraphy pen {or a pencil for more elaborate designs}, write your message out on the doilies.

+ Place the doily on work surface {a few layers of cardboard works if you don’t have one} and carefully trace the letter with the x-acto knife, being sure to leave a tiny strip to hold the solid centers on letters like O, R, Q, P, D, or B.

+ Mix equal parts elmers glue and pearlescent paint in a dish.

+ Lightly coat doily with paint mixture. You may want to do this to both sides, since it makes the garland more durable.

+ Cover entire surface with glitter and sift back and forth to shake off excess.

+ Once dry, place letters under heavy flat object.

+ String them up and enjoy!

Recently stumbled upon the beautiful blog, hearblack, which has absolutely GORGEOUS photography by the blog’s author. {Seriously, go look.} To boot, the blog is run by a young couple who lives in Hawaii and is obviously ridiculously, gag-me, smitten with one another. Oh, and they’ve got some great photos of recent Switzerland and Oregon trips that will make you drool. Photography and fabulous life aside, I was fascinated with these fantastic and simple bits of art I found on the site. So simple and lovely. This is a definite DIY project for all. So, while we can’t all live in Hawaii, madly in love with perfect photography and craft skills, we can have these frames.
