{friday finds: upcoming trends}

This morning over at {iStyle}, I covered my predictions for emerging and continuing trends for Fall/Winter 2009. Stop by, and see what you should be adding to your wardrobe! Two of the trends offer the opportunity for DIY projects and/or are easily attained starting now: embellished shoes and embellished legwear.

This shoe by Jeffrey Campbell is a sweeter take on the ruffled shoes seen on the runway this season. It comes in black, nude, and gold. I pre-ordered my pair yesterday through here. You can also take the opportunity to refresh an old pair of shoes by adding draped fabric, as seen in the third shoe in the image at the top of this post. Or, you could add some studs or chains to a pair of your shoes.

I first saw this DIY embellished tight tutorial presented through A Cup of Jo. I’d love to try this myself, but it is far too hot here in South Florida to do this anytime soon. When I do, I’ll be sure to post up pictures. {You can also find a few examples of adorned legs from the RTW collections here.}

Then there are these uncommon tights, which are the work of Gal Stern. I found them on the fabulous Bleach Black blog. I think it takes some confidence in your style to wear these, but they look incredibly fun. Now, unless you want to handpaint your tights, I don’t suggest turning these into a DIY project; just order a pair instead.

Overall, you’ll notice a mix of glam and tough accessories this fall, many of which you can {thankfully} DIY or acquire inexpensively. Now go visit {iStyle}!

{everyday beautiful life: pretty little world}

This week’s {EBL} comes from Kristen of Pretty Little World, a blogger who has been nothing but lovely to me. She’s never hesitated to help me out and was the first to blogroll me. I’m very glad to have her as part of this series.

{5 Things That Make for a Beautiful Life}

First I would like to send a big.huge “Thank you!” to Jenn for this opportunity to share a few of the things that make life beautiful!!

1. {Little Things in Nature}

There are so many amazing things that people pass by every day that are stunning and lovely. Even the intricate detail on one blossom is inspiring! This is probably why spring and summer are my favorite seasons — there’s just so much to look at whenever you leave the house! And there’s never any shortage of flowers to cut and bring inside!

2. {Fashion}

{Altamira and The Sartorialist}

This may be obvious given what I usually write about, but fashion is absolutely one of the most beautiful things a person can use/create. Every day you’ve got an opportunity to completely change the way that you feel, all depending on what you put on in the morning!

3. {My Blogger Friends…}

…all of them!! Ever since I’ve started blogging, I’ve discovered a community that’s completely blown me away. I’m always struck by the beauty of the people that I encounter — the generosity that is extended from people whom I’ve never met in person amazes me. Each day that I read everyone’s blogs is also a new opportunity for me to learn and be inspired!

4. {My Kitties}

As big of a pain as they can be sometimes (for instance, our only male cat has taken to wanting to wedge himself between a window and all of our glass spice jars), they always make me happy. I have yet to get through a day where they haven’t made me laugh.

5. {Reading & Writing}

{fieldguided}

This might sound silly, but I’m a big believer that spending a little bit of time writing in a journal or reading a book can turn your day around. Even if you can only get 10 or 15 minutes a day for this, it’s still transformative. To me this is also just proof that you don’t have to leave the house to find beautiful things — you just have to open up a book!

{alexis mabille}

Perhaps you’ve seen these shoes before?

They are the work of 30 year old designer, Alexis Mabille, who learned the ropes at YSL and Dior before leaving the nest and taking flight with his own collections. He is one of the few designers who showed this week at the couture shows in Paris.

{Fall Couture 2009}

Mabille’s Fall Couture 2009 collection is quite dreamy, and that is exactly how he intended it to be. Mabille’s inspiration was drawn from bedroom textiles and bedclothes. Compared to his Spring 2009 collection, Mabille’s Fall looks were a tad more cohesive. He still has a thing or two to learn about putting on a tightly edited show, but the foundation of his work is improving. Bows seem to be his thing, making appearances throughout this collection and past. It is quite obvious that Mabille is thinking in terms of business; he bases his accessories collections around these little bows and presents RTW and couture styled looks together. However, I feel that Mabille lacked the showstoppers that are expected during couture shows, save for the cut-out dress shown below.

A few emerging trends also made an appearance during his show. As evident in the photographs below, Mabille tapped into the exposed lingerie and bedroom attire, hooded suits, and elaborate/adorned legwear trends.

{Exposed lingerie, hoods, & adorned legwear. Emerging trends?}

The footwear at Fall 09 was notably more subtle, but still included a few of his bows and adornments. {Note: The bow shoe at top and those below were from previous collections.} I look forward to seeing what Mr. Mabille has in store for the future and watching his talents unfold.

Dior & Givenchy seem to be the smash hits. All the photographs from Givenchy are absolutely stunning. I can see Dior being very influential in trends soon. I adore the hats, but what for sure will be recreated a thousand times over will be the slips peeking out from under skirt, corsets and bras on display, and that cinched up 1950’s silhouette with jacket. I wonder how long it will take Forever 21 or Topshop to knockoff a cinched jacket or tulle skirt. {FYI – Anthropologie sells slips that resemble the Dior ones in-store. Lace, side-slit, and all.}
